A nice feature of ipe, a program for drawing figures that supports latex, is that you can use your latex macros in the figures. The idea is to extract the macros in your latex file and store them inside the ipe figure, by issuing:

ipe-update-master master.tex figs/bogi.ipe

and viola, reload the figure bogi.ipe in ipe, and you can use all the macros in the paper. Naturally, you have to mark which parts of the paper defines the macros. For more details, see here.
