For I am the creator of area

This is an old but cute geometric riddle. Consider the following tessellation of the 8×8 board, and observe that these pieces can be glued together to form a new board of size 5×13. Which is nononononsense, as the area of the original board was 64, but the area of the new board is 65. What is wrong?

And the answer is here.
